Help Us Reach A Miracle Milestone At Costco This Year
Is that my pharmacist dressed as Cinderella? Wait, why are the cashiers wearing their clothes inside out and backward? Did we get your attention? I hope so! During the month of May, Costco employees plan fun theme days to raise fun and funds for Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands.
You may see glimpses of the 1980s or Mardi Gras on your next visit, but most importantly you will be asked to donate. Since 1988, Costco has raised nearly $500 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. You can help Costco reach the milestone of raising $500 million to change kids’ health when you shop online or in-warehouse by donating to help kids like Tap Priester.
On a summer day, Tap, then two years old, and his sister, Gardner, were jumping on the bed in the playroom near where their mom, Lindsey, was cleaning the kitchen. Suddenly, she noticed it was quiet. They were not in the playroom. She checked the door to the garage and her heart dropped: it was unlocked. Three-year-old Gardner came in crying and Lindsey ran into the backyard and found Tap face down in their pool. She jumped in, flipped Tap over, and screamed for help. She pulled him out and began compressions; he immediately began throwing up water. Neighbors came running. A Terminix driver pulled into the driveway letting her know he had called 911. The paramedics grabbed Tap off the porch and drove him to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands. When she arrived at the hospital, Lindsey was reassured by the doctors that Tap was being taken care of and that she could see him. Incredibly, Tap made a complete recovery with no brain damage. His parents credit the incredible team at the hospital and their neighbors for saving their son.
Since 2017, Costco Columbia employees and members have donated more than $123,000 for kids treated at Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Midlands. Through donations collected during the annual campaign, hospitals are able to provide treatments and healing that patients desperately need today so that they can fulfill their potential for tomorrow—ultimately having ripple effects that positively impact our communities and our world for years to come. When we change kids’ health, we change the future – for all of us.
